I would like to welcome you back for the 2014-2015 school year. I hope everyone had a restful summer and is anxious to get back into the swing of a new school year. This summer, teachers, administrators, office staff, and guidance, diligently worked together to reflect and refine ideas that couldn’t be addressed due to the pace of the academic school year. Our secretaries, maintenance staff, and custodians have been putting in countless hours to improve, enhance, and organize our facilities for all students; we are so grateful for their unending work done in preparation for the upcoming school year. We anticipate an exciting year as we collectively strive to foster a culture of learning. I feel extremely fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff members at Brackman!
Student schedules will be available for parents and students to view before opening day this year via the parent portal; our target is Friday August 29th, approximately 5PM or Monday, September 1st, at the latest. If you have not registered for the parent portal, go to the Brackman web page and download the form under the tab for “online forms”. School begins September 4th and 5th both days will be an early dismissal at 11:40AM, the following week will begin our regular dismissal time at 2:20PM.
Our office staff and student helpers have worked diligently to prepare a welcome packet for our families. In an effort to reduce our impact on the environment, many of the resources have been posted on our website. Please take a moment to review the items, complete any forms, and turn them in as soon as possible; medical forms, including immunization records, emergency contact information, are extremely important with some mandated by law for students to attend school. Please also make note of the events on our school calendar, including our first PTA meeting, Wednesday, September 10th, at 6:30PM, and Back to School Night, Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30PM.
I look forward to meeting and continuing to work with each of you as we strive to serve our students and help each of them reach their full potential. Parents are integral partners in their child’s education, therefore, your involvement in school and extracurricular activities will contribute to your child’s achievement and success. In closing, please know our doors will always be open to our community. Feel free to call upon us if you should have any questions or concerns. You may also visit our website for updated information throughout the year. Below you will find some additional helpful information relative to the start of the school year.
Thank you for your continued support!
Attendance: One of the challenges that ROBMS has faced the last couple of years has to do with attendance and excessive tardiness. Regular attendance is essential for student learning and progress. Please make every effort to coordinate your family vacations when school is not in session (*see school calendar on the district homepage). Students lose out on critical instruction when they are absent or are not in school for the entire day. Therefore, late arrivals and early dismissals are highly discouraged. We request that medical and dental appointments be scheduled after school hours, if at all possible. If students are ill and unable to attend school, please notify our office the morning of the absence and supply medical documentation when applicable.
If you are transporting children to school, when you
arrive, please keep to the right, and proceed to the right side of the building.
We encourage families to please keep the line moving by pulling as far up as
they can along the drop off zone and release students anywhere along the
sidewalk; when students do not exit vehicles that have reached the sidewalk drop
off area this greatly impedes the traffic.
Due to one narrow driveway into ROBMS, to exit, traffic will be directed
to loop around the back of the building. AFTER buses have exited the front lot,
at approximately 7:35AM, the front entrance will be opened for drop off as
well. Students arriving after 7:40AM,
MUST use the front entrance and MUST sign-in at the attendance officer’s desk
in the main lobby. Please be patient,
the traffic is always a bit slower at the start of the year but as everyone
becomes more familiar it speeds up; your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
P.T.A.: We have a very dedicated and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association that goes above and beyond to support our educational programs and enhance student education. Mrs. Lisa Papas is the PTA president for this school year and will be encouraging your participation as a P.T.A member. There will be information available at the “Back to School” night on ways you can help serve the students at Brackman.
Student Food Services: School lunch cost is $2.70 for ROBMS students. Reduced price is $.40. Breakfast for a student is $1 .40 and reduced price is $.30. Lunch balances must be kept current. Students are not permitted to charge lunch or breakfast; however, no child will be refused a meal, they will receive an alternate meal that will be charged to their account. You will be able to use the online meal payment service, My Payments Plus, to put money on a student’s account or send a check in; please make checks payable to the Barnegat Board of Education.
