Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Fall!  We’ve made it through a successful school opening here at ROBMS due in large part to your ongoing support. I’m so excited to see students, teachers, and families settling into a new school year and adjusting to new routines and expectations. Activities have begun and I see lots of students here at the end of the school day participating in our after-school academic assistance programs, field hockey, cross country, soccer, football, and volleyball.

As a school, we are extremely proud of the consistent effort and determination that is put forth from our students and staff on a daily basis. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations with parents at our back-to-school night on the 24th; it was very encouraging to see this event so well attended. I appreciate the many compliments regarding our staff and your child’s opening experience as we talked throughout the evening.  As we continue to create academic excellence, we also recognize that middle school is a time of transition for both students and parents. However, the most important factors for your child’s success remain the same. Open and honest communication between home and school is essential for continued success.

Each month our guidance department, with the support of our staff, emphasizes a character trait; this month’s character trait is: Cooperation – an act or instance of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit.  Additionally, I would like to highlight a couple weekly themes in the month of October:

October 5-9th, National Week of Respect: The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (P.L.2010, c.122) requires that the week beginning with the first Monday in October of each year be designated as a “Week of Respect” in New Jersey. School districts, in order to recognize the importance of character education, are required to observe the week by providing age-appropriate instruction focusing on preventing harassment, intimation or bullying.

October 23-30th, we will have Red Ribbon and Character Counts activities. The activities will be geared toward encouraging a healthy drug free life and focusing on developing the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. By providing these opportunities for kids, we hope to positively impact our students’ social and academic growth. http://redribbon.org/about/

Please note that school will be closed on October 12th for Teacher Professional Development

Other activities taking place in October are:

 October 5 - 9               Week of Respect

October 6                    Mates/PAA Assembly Program

October 8                    Mentor-Mentee Breakfast – 7:00 AM

October 9                    Progress Reports on Parent Portal

October 9                    Walkathon

October 15                  PTA Volleyball Game  6:30 PM

October 21                  PTA Meeting – 7:00 PM

October 22                  NJHS Induction – 6:30 PM

October 26                  Red Ribbon Week/Violence Prevention Week

October 26                  School Picture Re-takes

October 30                  Halloween Dance – 7:00 PM

It’s not too late to join the ROBMS PTA. Help us in supporting much needed programs for our school, events, 8th grade formal dance, trip, and much more. The PTA can use your help specifically in preparing and planning for the 8th grade dance. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Mrs. Cavell in the main office at 609-698-5880, extension 4006, or kcavell@barnegatschools.com, and she will make sure you get in contact with the right person!

Please keep in mind that nothing motivates a child more than when they see that education is valued by school and family. It is my ongoing pleasure getting to know you and your child during this school year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
