Mrs. Chadwick's class and Mrs. Bartolini's class celebrates Veteran's Day!

Dear Horbelt Parents,

I hope everyone has recovered from Halloween! it was certainly very exciting here with all the activities.   Thank you so much, again, or your generous contribution to our Oceans of Love fundraiser. The children were asked to vote for my Halloween costume and in doing so raised over $300.00 for this worthy cause!  On behalf of the staff at the Horbelt School, I thank you and your children for your overwhelming generosity (Spiderman says thanks as well!).

As we move into the month of November, the students have settled into their daily routine, and each day brings with it a broad range of activities.  During the school day, these activities include music lessons for any 4th and 5th grade students who had expressed an interest in learning to play an instrument.  The Safety Patrol is on the job both at the beginning and the end of the day, ensuring that all students follow the rules when coming in during the morning or leaving in the afternoon as they proceed to and from their classes.

Right now, we are in the midst of our TWO Million Minute Challenge.  Yes, I have challenged the students of our school this year to collectively read TWO million minutes by June.   Is this possible?  Absolutely!   Right now we are seeing huge numbers. IN September alone, our students read over 170,000 minutes!  That is so exciting!  Please encourage your child to read, and track his or her reading, as this is a good habit - and part of our school-wide literacy initiative.   This grew out of the Barnegat School District’s Strategic Planning sessions held last year.

Clubs begin November 10th and will be in full swing by December (we have many ½ days and days off in November; they will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays this year.  The students were offered a large selection of activities from which they could choose.  The choices included both non-academic interests such as Intramurals as well as academic pursuits like preparation classes for the PARCC Test.  We also have an early dismissal day on November 26th for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  Dismissal on all half days is always 12:20!

Please remember that with the weather changing from warmer days to cooler days the children will still have recess outside, weather permitting; please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately so they can enjoy their outdoor recess time.
