January 2015

Please check the District Main Page for updates on school closing!

Dear Horbelt Parents:

First, Happy New Year to all!  Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to our “Giving Trees” that were set up in the school’s lobby. Your generous donations ensured that others could have a Happy Holiday! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!! VERY!

All the students returned from winter break looking happy and well rested. As we proceed into the first months of the calendar year, all our before, during, and after school activities are once again in full gear. We are also preparing for the PARCC which is soon arriving – more information about that will be forthcoming.

Our School District will continue to use the telephone calling system, School Messenger, to notify every parent about any change to the normal school day. If you have any questions about the phone number you have on file, please notify the office. If you do not receive a call, please let us know so we can remedy that.   Please feel free to go to the school website to check for inclement weather announcements as well: www.barnegatschools.com.

Please remember that during the colder months we continue to have outside recess whenever we can - weather permitting.   Accordingly, please make sure your children have a sweater, hat, scarf and gloves in their backpack so they can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine during their recess period.

We continue our push for literacy improvement with our TWO Million Minute Challenge.  Please continue to encourage your children to read at home.   It is this constant practice that really makes a difference. Just like athletes improve with practice, so too do readers improve with practice.   Becoming a good reader is a lifelong skill that is invaluable – and it all starts here! At this time, the Horbelt School has read over 700,000 minutes; they are well on their way to the two million minute goal!

Here are the upcoming events for the Horbelt School that will take place in January:

January 19      School Closed Martin L. King Day

            January 21      PTA Meeting 7:00 p.m.

January 22      Activity Photo’s All Day

January 30      End of Marking Period

Should you have any questions or concerns, please remember that my door is always open.
