October 2016

 Dear Horbelt Families:

We are now entering our second month of school for the current school year and are settling into our daily routine. Every day we work on being upbeat and positive to set an example for our students to follow; we want that to be our standard as we live out our school slogan: “it’s a Horbelt thing” so our children know exactly what that means.   This is part of our continued effort to help our children mature with the characteristics they need to be successful!

Our PTA does a fabulous job in sponsoring many and varied activities for the children. Through the year the PTA sponsors man fundraisers, some of which help pay for the children’s class trips during the school year. If you would like to be part of your child’s school experience in a positive way, the RLHS PTA is a great way to do just that. Contact Tara Maggio if this interests you.

For your convenience, I have listed below activities that will take place during the month. They are as follows:

October 28                    HALLOWEEN PARADE 1:30 PM

An event that everyone looks forward to is the annual Halloween parade and class party. Because of the number of children who have peanut allergies, please remember that if you are bringing in food for classroom parties, no nuts or hard candy are permitted for the children. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact the PTA Classroom Coordinator or Mrs. Dwyer, our school nurse. More information about the parade will be sent home shortly. Weather permitting, the students will march outside for everyone to enjoy.  We have been speaking to the students about staying safe and being cautious as they “Trick or Treat.” Please reiterate this with your children so the day is marked with wonderful memories.

As you know, the Battle of the Books is an ongoing success last year!   As you know, I have challenged our students to read THREE million minutes this year. Please help your child succeed here by encouraging good reading practices at home.    We will also continue with our push for sound attendance with our All Star Attendance program. This focus on attendance has helped us improve our attendance over the past few years. We are confidently looking to see that continue this year!

Finally, you should be receiving my emails with information about bullying weekly or bi-weekly. And, look for the forthcoming invitation for Coffee with the Principal. Both are part of this year’s initiatives to help us forge strong cooperative bonds to work together for the success of our children!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please see me.
