Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome back to a wonderful school year here at Robert L Horbelt School. We are excited to say good bye to summer, open our doors, and welcome all our students and staff back. We anticipate a year of growth and fun for everyone involved. As you know, the first day of school is Thursday, September 4. We will open with an early dismissal for September 4 and September 5. Monday, September 8 will begin our regular full day schedule.
School hours are as follows:
Full Day: 8:20AM – 3:00 PM
Early Dismissal 8:20 AM – 12:20 PM
Don’t forget that Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3 at 1:30PM.
Every new school year presents new beginnings – and we welcome you to a year that is filled with many new beginnings. We are ready! The Horbelt School welcomes new staff members to our learning community. Last year we experienced the retirement of Mrs. Kadlubowksi, Mrs. Abbato, and Mrs. Byrne, and this year we are also filling maternity leaves. Here are the changes you can expect to see:
Mrs. Farr will go to BSI and Mr. Michael Villiez will take over the PE program!
Ms. Duffe will be providing speech services and follow in the footsteps of Mrs. Byrne!
Ms. Brown joins us as a Media Specialist to replace Mrs. Kadlubowksi.
We welcome Mrs. Martin back in the kindergarten classroom!
Mr. Lockner will cover third grade until Mrs. Helm returns from maternity leave!
Mrs. Morano will fill in for Mrs. Casaletto until she returns from her maternity leave!
Mrs. Lintner will be moving to our 4th grade teaching team!
We also welcome three aides to help us with our students: Mrs. Wedderman, Mrs. Colonna, and Mrs. Meyers! You will get a chance to meet all these fine individuals soon!
Finally, I sadly share that Mr. Strouse will be leaving us to take a high school position out of district. We wish him well, but we will sorely miss him. We are currently searching for a suitable replacement. While change is sometimes hard to handle, I am excited about the Horbelt team--- I am excited to press on with the high level of care given to the students, and attention to academics that this school has modeled. Fun and learning, nurture and teamwork, pushing towards excellence – it’s a Horbelt thing!
This year our school will continue with its academic press and push towards literacy. We had so much fun with the Battle of the Books last year that we are going to do it again. But, I will give our students a challenge! Expect to hear about that challenge shortly! The second main push we be in the area of writing. This year we will promote more writing and provide opportunities for our students work to be showcased. Both of these pushes focus on the promotion of literacy. Expect to hear more as the year progresses!
You will receive important information on the first day of school, including the emergency card. Please complete and return these forms in a timely manner. Please take a moment to become familiar with the Horbelt website. Throughout the year, important and timely information will be posted on each site. The PTA has also distributed membership packets, which list all PTA events throughout the school year, as well as volunteer information and membership information. If you did not receive one for your family, please let the office know and they will notify the PTA.
Back to School Night is scheduled this year for Thursday, September 11, 2014. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. This is a wonderful time to meet teachers and see the classroom that your child is learning. Teachers will review important information for the school year during this evening. Please join us for an informative night. More information about this night is forthcoming. If your child is in Grade 3-5 and is interested in riding his/her bike to school, please send in a letter requesting a permission form. A bike pass will then be given to your child’s homeroom teacher. Also for those students who walk in grades K-2, please make sure we receive your walker buddy letters.
I am so excited for the opportunity to work with you and continue the tradition of Horbelt pride. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. The phone number for the main office is 660-7500 ext. 2000.
