December 1, 2016
Dear Horbelt Parents:
With the holiday preparations in full swing, the students at the Horbelt School are keeping very busy. We have our traditional giving trees in the entry way. Students are encouraged to bring in something for special families. Of course, you are also welcome to come in to the school and see the trees for yourself; all trees are designed to encourage our students to help others have a Happy Holiday!
The food drive, sponsored by the Leaders in Training for Thanksgiving, was a great success. Thanks to everyone who contributed. All canned food that was collected was donated to the Barnegat Food Pantry. In addition to the food drive, in preparation for Thanksgiving, we were able to distribute turkey and food baskets because of the generosity of Bayside Chapel.
As you know, we are in the midst of our THREE Million Minute Challenge. I have challenged the students of our school to collectively read ONE MILLION MINUTES MORE than last year. This year, the students have already read more than 300,000 minutes. Absolutely amazing!! I am excited to share what the students do for November (numbers are coming in as I write this!) Please encourage your child to read, and track it, as this is a good habit - and part of our school-wide literacy initiative.
