Teacher Bio:
Ms. Bollenbach has been at Barnegat High School teaching theatre since 2007. She is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Theatre Education. She has acted in and directed numerous productions at Barnegat High School, and local community productions both in New Jersey and in New Mexico. Ms. Bollenbach is the director of the Bengal Theatre Company and Thespian Troupe #7363. 

My teaching philosophy:

"When you step out into the light to do the show, play your part with everything you've got. Invest every laugh, every tear, everything beautiful and ugly from your lives. Do your show and live your lives with humanity, because whatever you do, it changes someone's life forever. “

With the odds of landing a job in the acting profession at one in over 1,900, I can assume that not every student I teach will go on to be a professional actor. My students will play many roles in their lives however. These are the roles of son, daughter, sibling, friend, husband, wife, parent, employee, colleague and citizen.

The lessons I teach in an acting classroom are lessons of self-expression, self-esteem, confidence, respect, trust, teamwork and cooperation. I teach problem solving, and working together towards a common goal. I teach students how to take a risk and how to stand proudly in front of others. I teach students how to use their voices, and how to share those voices with others. I teach how to walk in another's shoes for a day…or for a play. I teach appreciation and understanding of art and of each other.

Shakespeare once said “All the world is a stage, and the men and women merely players.” I believe that as a teacher, I am responsible for helping those players perform their roles with humanity.
