My name is Mrs. Szelc and I am so excited to be here at Horbelt this year!  This will be my fifth year of teaching and my third year at Horbelt. I am very excited to spend it teaching 6th Grade Science! I encourage parent-teacher communication as I firmly believe that a strong parent-teacher relationship benefits student growth.  I encourage all of my students to ask questions.  I utilize inquiry learning in our class to help students question the world around them and derive their own conclusions based on evidence and reasoning.  To me, learning cannot happen without failure.  I expect that my students will make mistakes and I strive to celebrate those mistakes in the classroom.

My classroom goal is to create a kind and caring environment where students feel comfortable and desire to collaborate.  Every student brings something special to the classroom and I find great joy in bringing out the unique differences in each child to create a diverse and inclusive classroom environment.
