Room 610

My name is Mrs. DeMeola and I teach 5th grade Math and Science. This is my 2nd year in Barnegat and my 8th year of teaching. In mathematics, we will be studying place-value, multiplying and dividing, decimals and fractions, as well as geometry and measurement.  In Science, we will be learning about matter and energy in ecosystems, Earth's systems, as well as Earth and Space patterns. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and starting this exciting year!

I graduated from Georgian Court College with a Bachelor's  in Sociology. Then I attended Walden University and obtained a Master's of Science Education. I previously taught 3rd grade for four years and 4th grade for 2 years in Old Bridge Township, before teaching 5th grade in Barnegat last year. 

I believe in the philosophy that children do not learn from teachers they do not like, or classes that they find boring. In my classroom, you will find lots of opportunities for hands-on instruction that fosters independence and a love for math and Science. During the Math block there will be a combination of whole group, small group, and independent working opportunities. I focus on the use of the Daily 5 method that enables students to be in control of their own learning. I offer an abundance of flexible seating, so children can be comfortable while they learn.
