The Barnegat Board of Education is comprised of nine voting members, elected by the public during an official election. The Board Secretary, the Superintendent and the Board Attorney also attend these meetings in an official capacity.

Doreen Continanza, Vice President

Current Term: 2024-2027

Doreen Continanza served as a board member from January 2017- August 2021 and was re-elected to the school board in November to serve a 3 year- term.

Mrs. Continanza and her husband Allen have been Barnegat homeowners for the past 10 yrs. and reside in a Barnegat 55+ Community. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University in English.

She serves as the Chair for the Governance Committee and is a member of the Finance and Personnel committees.

Mrs. Continanza is excited about the Board and Executive Team working together to make Barnegat Schools the best in Ocean County.

Sandra Churney, Board Member
Carol Geene, Board Member

Carol Geene has been a resident of the Barnegat community for 18 years. She loves spending time with her dog Brook and taking her for walks around the community. Carol is a retired human resource specialist for the Northern New Jersey District of the United States Postal Service where she worked for 39 years. Carol serves as a member of the Governance, Personnel, and Health/Safety/Technology committees.

Bruno Iamonte, Board Member

Current Term: 2022-2024

Bruno Iamonte has been a resident of the Barnegat community for 20 years. He and his late wife, Mary, have two daughters and six grandchildren. Bruno is a retired science teacher who taught in the Kearny School District for 36 years. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Charleston in West Virginia and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from New Jersey City University. Bruno serves as Chair of the Heath, Safety, & Technology committee and is a member of the Personnel and Education committees.

Bonnie Levy, Board Member

Current Term: 2022-2024

Bonnie Levy and her husband, Daniel, have been residents of the Barnegat community for 20 years. She began her educational career as a mathematics teacher, transitioned to a master math teacher, and ultimately became the PreK - 8 Director of Curriculum
for the Kearny School District prior to retiring after 35 years. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Douglass College and a master’s degree in education from City University. Bonnie serves as a member of the Education, the Finance, and the Negotiations Committees.

Regina Tarnowski, Board Member

Current Term: 2022-2024

Regina Tarnowski has been a resident of the Barnegat community for four years. She is the proud parent of four children, all of whom are students in the district. Regina is an active member of the community, coaches for the Barnegat Soccer Club and is a local Girl Scout leader. She received her New Board Member Boardsmanship Certification, and is the Ocean County Vice President for the NJSBA. Regina serves as Chair of the Finance Committee, a member of the Health, Safety & Technology, Governance and Building & Grounds/Transportation committees.

Lauren Washburn, Board Member

Current Term: 2024-2026

Lauren Washburn has been a resident of the Barnegat community for four years. She and her husband, Drew, are proud parents of one daughter in the district. Lauren is a local realtor and has spent the last 14 years working in higher education helping students realize their potential and putting their skills to work. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in English from Montclair State University. She serves as a member of the Athletics and Education committees.
