Symphonic Band
Mr. Todd Gagnon, Band Director
Symphonic Band is a performance ensemble that takes place during the school day. Students in Grades 7 and 8 are eligible to take Band as a course in their schedule. In order to participate in Concerts & Performances, students must be enrolled in the Band Class in their schedule. Annual Concert Performances will take place in the Winter & Spring. Additional performance opportunity will be announced during the school.

The Symphonic Band consists of the following Instruments:
Woodwinds: Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone.
Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone
Percussion: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Xylophone, Bells, Cymbals, Triangle, Timpani.
Supplies Needed for Band Class:
1. Woodwind & Brass Students: Your Band Instrument
2. Pencil
3. One Pocket Folder (Will Be Provided)
4. One Subject Notebook
5. Percussion Students Only: Drum Sticks

Band Pull-Out Lesson Schedule
As a part of your schedule for Symphonic Band, each student enrolled in the course will receive a Pull-Out Band Lesson one day per week. This allows students to work in their sections in order to develop and enhance your child's musical experience.
Each Pull-Out Lesson will take place during your child's scheduled Gym Period. Please attend your scheduled Band Lesson on your assigned day.

Grading Scale
All students will receive a weekly participation grade based on performance and behavior during class.
Students will receive Quiz & Test Grades throughout the Marking Period
For all Symphonic Band Periods, students will be assessed on the following Grading Scale:
Tests - 50% (3 Major Assessments)
Tests may include:
Performance Assessments (Playing Tests)
Concert Reflections
Winter & Spring Concert Attendance
Quizzes - 30% (4 Minor Assessments)
Quizzes may include:
Scale Tests
Sight-Reading Performance Assessments
Music Theory Assessments
Writing Assignments
Band Folder/Supply Check
Participation - 20% (5 Course Participation Grades)
Bring Instrument and Band Supplies to School
Demonstrates active participation and appropriate behavior in class
Attendance in Pull-Out Lessons*
*Students will receive a Pull-Out Band Lesson one day per week during their Gym/Health Period.
Attendance for Pull-Out Lessons is mandatory as a part of your child's grade for Band Class. Students who do not attend their Pull-Out Band Lesson will lose points off of their Weekly Participation Grade for Band Class.
