Exploring Program

  • The Barnegat High School Counseling Department is partnering with the Exploring Program to provide hands on experiences working in the field of your choice.

The Exploring Program is a worksite-based learning program open to all high school students, ages 14-20.

It begins with the student taking a very brief career interest survey at exploringyourcareer.com to let the Exploring Program know which “posts,” or work sites, sound good.

Exploring posts that are currently operating and taking new members in our area of Ocean County include:

    • Little Egg Harbor Police Explorers
    • Jakes Branch County Park Environmental Science Explorers
    • Parkertown Fire Explorers
    • Beachwood Police Explorers

Future posts that are currently in the works to be set up include:

    • Southern Ocean Medical Explorers
    • Hotel Management & Hospitality Explorers

Barnegat students are welcome to join existing posts, or, if enough Barnegat students are interested in a particular career, the Exploring Program will work with community partners to create a new post based on student interest. Other options might include setting up posts in Business, Technology, Skilled Trades, Social Services, the Arts, and more!

    Exploring offers valuable opportunities:

    • Learn real-life job skills
    • Be exposed to new experiences
    • Meet people
    • Build your resume

The time commitment for the Exploring Program varies from post to post, but generally students meet at their post once a month or so. Exploring activities are usually done on weekends, so students will need transportation. There also may be costs associated, although we have information about getting that fee reduced or waived.

Stop by and see Mrs. Gehrke in the Counseling office for more details!
