2025-2026 Pilot Program: Expanding Freshman Opportunities

Launching in the 2025-2026 school year, Law, Duty & Leadership is a pilot program designed to give freshmen greater flexibility in course selection while exploring leadership, law enforcement, and military career pathways. The program integrates Naval Junior ROTC (NJROTC), SHIELD, and Physical Education/Health. NJROTC builds leadership, discipline, and citizenship through military-based instruction, physical fitness, and community service. SHIELD, in partnership with the Barnegat Police Department, introduces students to law enforcement careers, leadership training, and life skills, offering hands-on experience with law enforcement practices. Students will participate in fitness activities, team-building, and sports, while learning about decision-making, wellness, and drug prevention.  Students also have the opportunity to earn a boat safety certification as part of the program. 

 

As sophomores, students have more flexibility in their schedules for electives, allowing them to continue in the NJROTC or SHIELD pathway to further develop their academic and career goals. After completing the introductory pilot, students can choose to focus on law enforcement, NJROTC, or both, without having to choose between the two. Additionally, Law, Duty & Leadership fulfills the NJDOE-required Career and Technical Education graduation requirement.
