Welcome to 5th Grade!

My name is Miss Patwell and I teach 5th grade ELA and Social Studies! This year we will be diving into looking into in depth reading concepts and perfecting our essay writing skills. We will also be exploring major events and wars in United States history. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and starting this exciting year!

I graduated St. Bonaventure University with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. I also received a Master's degree from St. Bonaventure in Childhood Liteacy. After graduating, I taught at a charter school in Harlem for two years before moving to LBI. This year will be my fourth year teaching in Barnegat! I have taught fourth grade, second grade, sixth grade, and 5th grade math and science. I am beyond excited to begin the year :)

In my classroom, you will find lots of opportunies for hands on instruction that fosters independence and exploring your own interests. This year I am looking to incorporate different novels into the Wonders curriculum! During the ELA block there will be a combination of whole group, small group, and indpendent working opportunities.
