Preschool Intervention and Referral Team

  • The Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT) is a school-based, collaborative problem-solving team to assist teachers in generating intervention strategies to meet the needs of pupils in the general education classroom who evidence learning, behavioral or health difficulties. 

    PIRT members shall be established for every 750 preschool students and supervised by the early childhood school district administrator and shall work within a consultation model. (Code 6A:13A-4.4)

    PIRT members may include: Early Childhood Administrators; Master Teachers; Speech-Language Pathologists; Behavior Specialist; Community Parent Involvement Specialist (CPIS); Social Workers; Family Partners; Learning Disability Teacher Consultant; School Psychologists; General Education Teacher; Special Education Teachers; Parent/Guardians; any anyone else who is relevant to the child’s education of life.
