Here are some Helpful Tips from the Nurse's office:

Fever: A child with a temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher must stay home from school. They may return after being fever free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medication such as Tylenol or Advil/Motrin

Vomiting/Diarrhea: A child with vomiting and/or diarrhea must stay at home and return to school only after being symptom free for at least 24 hours.

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of conjunctivitis (pink eye), the child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication and must provide a health care provider’s clearance.

Rashes: Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages. A child with a suspicious rash may return to school only after a health care provider has made a diagnosis and authorized and provided written clearance for the child’s return to school.

General illness: There are times when various persistent symptoms/signs of illness can disrupt the student’s learning and/or pose a risk of illness to others. These illnesses may sometimes include extreme or uncontrolled nasal congestion and/or coughing, eye discomfort/discharge or redness, sore throat and headaches/general discomfort. Some illnesses or symptoms will require a note from your health care provider clearing your child to return to school. This is to ensure that the illness is not contagious to others and to also inform us of any precautions that may need to be taken for your child.

Medication: If your child has asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies requiring the administration of epinephrine, or any life-threatening illness, please contact the health office as additional medical forms will be required. Medical forms can be downloaded and printed off of our district website. All medications must be brought in by a parent or guardian (not sent in with the child or in their backpack) and must also be in the original labeled container/packaging. Please check with your child's teacher about food allergies in your child's classroom.

Last, but certainly not least, remember to always wash hands! This is one quick and easy step we can all take to help prevent the spread of illness.

All of these healthful hints are to insure your child and all other children at Dunfee School remain healthy and well. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
