About Us

Robert L. Horbelt School is an important part of the Barnegat Township School District. The school serves students in grades 5 and 6, providing an important transition between the elementary and middle school years. Horbelt’s mission emphasizes high levels of student achievement within an engaging environment while fostering lifelong learning, empathy, acceptance, and collaboration with the community.

Horbelt is committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of its students. The school provides a range of instructional and support services to meet individual student needs, including academic interventions, academic acceleration, counseling, and enrichment opportunities.

At the heart of Horbelt is a strong sense of school community and pride. The school embraces the “Energy Bus”, which focuses on helping students create a positive vision, fueled with positive energy, and to treat everyone in a caring, respectful manner. Additionally, students are recognized for positive contributions through Positive Referrals, Students of the Month, and the district’s UPstanders program, while staff work collaboratively to create a positive and dynamic learning environment. Together, these efforts make Robert L. Horbelt School a place where students are encouraged not only to succeed academically, but also to become confident, compassionate, and responsible members of their school and community.
