Dear Barnegat Families and Community Members,

The Barnegat Township Board of Education is seeking qualified, dedicated community members to fill a vacancy on the Board. The appointed candidate will serve from the date of appointment through the reorganization meeting of January 2028.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet all legal requirements under New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1):
A citizen of the United States.
At least 18 years of age.
Able to read and write.
A resident of Barnegat Township for at least one year preceding appointment. Registered to vote in Barnegat Township.
Not holding an office/position that creates a conflict of interest, nor serving as a mayor or member of the local governing body.
Not having a direct or indirect financial interest in any contract with, or claim against, the Board.
Pass a criminal history background check within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Attend monthly public meetings, executive sessions, and assigned committee meetings.
Collaborate on district policy, budget oversight, and superintendent evaluation.
Complete mandatory state training requirements for new school board members during the first year of service.

Application Process:

Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest and a resume outlining their qualifications, background, and reason for seeking the appointment by 3 pm September 8th.
Anticipated interviews will be before the Board will be on September 22nd @ 6pm at Barnegat High School.
