Social Studies
The Barnegat Township School District designed a Social Studies curriculum to foster critical thinking, student engagement, and help students develop a breadth of knowledge of the world’s history, geography, economic systems, and civics spanning kindergarten through twelfth grade. Lessons aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Social Studies provide opportunities for students to learn the skills, perspectives, and attributes necessary to become an informed, active, and contributing member of the community. Engaging students through interactive inquiry-based lessons, real-world applications, and project-based learning, along with cross curricular language arts correlations provide students with a multifaceted learning experience that promotes active participation and enhances student interest. Teachers utilize various instructional strategies, such as collaborative group work, developing claims using evidence, multimedia resources, and research projects. Data is collected from formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and track student progress towards achieving the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
