The Barnegat Board of Education is comprised of nine voting members, elected by the public during an official election. The Board Secretary, the Superintendent and the Board Attorney also attend these meetings in an official capacity.

Sean O'Brien, Board President
Sean O’Brien is a lifelong resident of the Barnegat community. He graduated from Stockton University with a MBA. As a global supply chain professional, he has been responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in materials and labor. Sean is also well-versed in contract negotiations, including legal, ethical, and fiscal compliance. In addition to serving as President, Sean serves as chairperson on the district’s Personnel Committee and is also a member of the Finance Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, Governance Committee, and Transportation Committee. He and his wife, Jen, are proud parents to two students in the district. In his spare time, Mr. O’Brien enjoys fishing, traveling with his family, as well as coaching soccer and basketball within the Barnegat sports community.
It is his hope as a board member to ensure our children receive the best education possible while ensuring our citizens have faith that our district is responsible, efficient, and sustainable

Bonnie Levy, Board Vice President
Bonnie Levy is an 18-year resident of Barnegat. She began her 35 years in education as a teacher of mathematics after graduating from Douglass College and ultimately retired as the PreK-8 Director of Curriculum for the Kearny School District. Bonnie received her master’s degree in Education and her principal/supervisory certificate from City University. She transitioned to Kearny’s Master Math Teacher before becoming Curriculum Director. Throughout her many years of employment in education, tax preparation, and her current service as Mirage Women’s Club Treasurer and Finance Committee member, Bonnie has gained much experience in the areas of finance, budget, taxation, and contract negotiations. As the newly elected Vice President of Barnegat’s Board of Education, Bonnie also serves as a member of the Education Committee, Governance Committee, Finance, Building & Grounds Committee, and the Transportation Committee. She and her husband, Daniel, relocated to Barnegat in 2004 where she enjoys being involved in her community. In addition to relishing in all that the Jersey shore area has to offer, she and Daniel like to travel in their spare time.
Bonnie’s lifelong dedication to education and community service, in addition to her training and experience in finance, will enable her to be a valuable asset to Barnegat’s Board of Education throughout her three-year tenure. Her commitment to the entire Barnegat community is that she will do her best to ensure and provide a thorough and efficient education to all Barnegat students.

Colleen Angus, Board Member
Colleen Angus is a resident of Barnegat Township of a collective 30 years. She began her career in healthcare as an EMT at age 16 and has progressed into nursing over the last two decades. She has served in multiple managerial positions in the emergency services field and is a past CPR instructor. She is currently the Vice President of the Barnegat Elementary PTA and a coach for Barnegat Boys Basketball. She has spent many years advocating for the children of this town beginning with being a co-founder of Barnegat Girls Basketball and coaching multiple sports in the township. She and her husband, Scott, are proud parents of one student in the district. Their son is involved in multiple sports including Junior Bengals football, basketball, hockey and lacrosse. She currently serves the Board of Education as the chairperson for the Athletic Committee and is a member of the Personnel and Heath, Safety and Technology Committees. It is her goal to ensure that all Barnegat students receive a quality education while pursuing their dreams and that the district is a place that staff feel heard and valued.

Carol Geene, Board Member
Carol Geene is a 17-year resident of Barnegat residing in the Mirage Community where she has been very active throughout the years. Carol is enjoying her retirement after working as a Human Resource Specialist for the Northern NJ District of the United States Postal Service for 39 years. Carol was responsible for coordinating and facilitating the hiring of all new employees. Nowadays, Carol enjoys going on several hikes each week at different sites around the Pinelands with her hiking club. Carol loves spending time with her dog Brook and taking her for walks around the community.
Carol volunteered on numerous committees in her community, such as The Lunchbox Committee, which serves lunches and snacks to Mirage residents and guests during the summer season. She has served on The Go Red Committee; whose purpose was to fundraise for the American Heart Association. Carol currently serves as the Co-Chairperson on the Mirage Remembrance Committee which recognizes Veterans in ceremonial observances on Memorial Day, Veterans Day and 911 Remembrance Day.
Carol decided to seek election to the Barnegat Board of Education in order to work with the Board members to ensure Barnegat Schools are the highest performing in Ocean County. Carol believes in having complete transparency within the community (except confidential matters) and she believes in fiscal responsibility. Carol’s goal is to ensure Board is fiscally accountable for every tax dollar they spend.

Bruno Iamonte, Board Member
Bruno Iamonte is a retired school teacher with 36 years of experience in the Kearny School District in New Jersey. He was born in Italy and grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Charleston in West Virginia and a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from New Jersey City University. During his teaching career, he received several awards, including the New Jersey Marine Association Outstanding Educator of the Year and the US EPA Region 2 Environmental Quality Award. He developed and implemented a summer Environmental Awareness Program for 8th grade students and published science lessons in Science Scope, a magazine for middle school science teachers. After retiring in 2005, Bruno and his late wife, Mary, moved to Barnegat where he currently resides. After moving to Barnegat, he joined the Barnegat First Aid Squad in 2007 and currently serves as their CPR trainer and Community Outreach. He is a member of the Mirage at Barnegat Safety Committee and the Mirage Men’s Club foundation, where he serves as president. Bruno enjoys traveling and spending time with his two daughters and six grandchildren.
As a member of the Barnegat Board of Education, Bruno serves on the Education Committee, Health, Safety, & Technology Committee, and the Personnel Committee. With his extensive teaching experience, knowledge of curriculum development and implementation, and his ability to make sound decisions about spending, he hopes to ensure that your tax dollars are spent transparently and responsibly on programs that will provide the foundation for all Barnegat students to reach their goals in life.

Regina Tarnowski, Board Member
Regina Tarnowski is a mother of four children, three of whom are in the district elementary schools. She is a former EMT who rode with the Beachwood First Aid Squad for three years and is currently the Youth Services chairperson for VFW Post 9503 Auxiliary, Bayville. Regina is currently enrolled full-time at Ocean County College in the hopes of pursuing multiple degrees in education and sociology. She is a committee person on the Barnegat Soccer Club board, and not only enjoys coaching multiple teams but also spending time playing soccer. She is a local Girl Scout leader and an active community member. She enjoys sewing, scrapbooking, and reading. In Regina’s free time she enjoys camping, family adventures, and being outdoors. Her children are involved in multiple activities including violin, Boy Scouts, karate, and gymnastics. Regina is currently serving on the Governance Committee and the Health, Safety, and Technology committees.
