    Dear Barnegat Families,

Thank you for your support and for working together!

It’s hard to believe but we have finished our first month of school!  We have been on quite a wild ride since last March. Due to the current pandemic, our students, parents, and staff have had to adapt to a lot of changes, a new schedule, new protocols, new procedures, and for most a new building.  I know that our students have been working hard in the classroom and at home to try their best under these challenging circumstances; again, I cannot thank everyone enough for their patience and understanding. Children learning from home while teachers instruct from school is a new concept for everyone, and it’s essential to a child’s success that parents and teachers work collaboratively to help them during these unconventional times.  We continue to learn and grow together.

Remote Learning, R.E.A.D. days, and READING!

As you know, while we do have many students in the fully-virtual program and most students back at school for two days a week, all students are having to experience school remotely. I want to express one particular tip/suggestion during this unprecedented time; one of the MOST important things to do is for your child to read daily.  The ability to read and comprehend text will assist learning in every subject area -- Science, Social Studies, and Math.  I encourage you to ensure your child sets a minimum 20-minute daily reading goal.  However, we want them to find something they ENJOY!  They may even branch out and try a genre that they don’t typically choose – just to explore.  They could read an article, magazine, comic book, listen to a story online, or chapter book.  Anything that interest them!  Studies have proven that 20 minutes reading daily is extremely beneficial.  You know your child’s needs.  They can read independently, companion read (you read a page, they read a page), or listen to a story while they follow along. We have many books in our library and teachers have many in their classroom as well; please encourage your child to take books home if they need and don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you need assistance.

We have the BEST PTA ever!

We would not be able to do our best for our students and school without the dedication and investment of our dedicated driven PTA officers and parents. I encourage you to join our Parent Teacher Association! Our PTA continues to work with us ideas and activities to promote a positive environment and foster school spirit; additionally, they are continuing to work on fundraising efforts which provide incredible support for our staff and students. Please consider joining the Barnegat Elementary PTA (BE PTA)!
