    Course Description: Jazz Band is open to any student who plays a woodwind or brass instrument, drum set, piano or guitar. This course is designed to further develop and refine the skills necessary for ensemble musicianship and performance skills learned in previous grades. The Jazz Band explores all subgenres of jazz music including: rock, swing, blues, pop, fusion, bebop, Latin, and many more. Since the goal of this course is to develop and refine musical skills, students must already know how to play an instrument and read music. Participation in all of the band’s performances is required.

     

    SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR JAZZ BAND CLASS:

    • Your Band Instrument**
    • Band Folder - Will be provided. MUST be returned at the end of the school year.
    • Pencil
    • ** = Percussion Students must provide their own pair of drum sticks.

    CONCERT PERFORMANCE ATTIRE:

    • All Jazz Band Members must wear the following articles of clothing for all concerts and performances:

      • Men: 

        • BHS Jazz Band Polo Shirt - Will be provided. MUST be returned at the end of the school year.

        • Black Dress Pants, Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes

      • Women:

        • BHS Jazz Band Polo Shirt - Will be provided. MUST be returned at the end of the school year.
        • Black Dress Pants

        • Black Dress Shoes or Flat, Closed-Toed Shoes

      • Dresses, Skirts, Jeans, Opened-Toe Shoes, and Flip Flops are NOT acceptable forms of attire for performances!
